Professor Krzysztof Jóźwiak, PhD, DSc. is head of the Biopharmacy Department at the Medical University of Lublin, Poland. His research interests include molecular mechanisms of neurotransmission and pharmacological interventions in neurologic and neurodegenerative disorders. He conducts medicinal chemistry projects by combining computational modeling with experimental (affinity and functional efficacy) studies on drugs targeting neuronal receptors (ligand gated ion channels and 7TM receptors). In his research he aims to develop substances with selective action on a specific subtype of a receptor and/or on a specific intracellular signaling event. Co-author of over 100 research articles with a total of 2600 citations index (h = 23), two patents and a number of lectures on international scientific conferences. Editor and co-author of the book: Drug Stereochemistry: Analytical Methods and Pharmacology (New York, 2012). His research was funded by five grants from the State Ministry of Science, three subsidies from the Foundation for Polish Science and a research contract from the National Institutes of Health, USA. Postdoctoral training in the Laboratory of Clinical Investigations, the National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, Baltimore, MD, USA (2001-2004), and in the Laboratory of Biomodeling, the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw, Poland (2005-2007). Recipient of the 2012 edition of the UCB-Ehrlich Award for Excellence in Medicinal Chemistry granted by the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry in Berlin, Germany.

Dr. Pravin completed his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (India) in 2009. He obtained his Master’s degree in Chemistry from Periyar University, salam (India) in 2011, with a research final project focussed on the study of transition metal complexes their catalytic potential on the reduction of p-aminophenol. He pursued his  PhD under the supervision of Prof. N.Raman (VHNSN College) at Madurai Kamaraj University (India) in 2016. During his doctoral research, he investigated the role of  Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes in biological activities such as DNA binding activity, antimicrobial potential and anticancer activities. After this, he moved to a post-doctoral position at IIT Bombay with Prof. Maheswarn Shanmugam and involved the project on the early detection of amyloid fibrils by metal-organic frameworks. In 2020, He joined as a researcher with Prof. Krzysztof Jozwiak research group in the Biopharmacy department under NAWA ullam program. Currently, his research focuses on the development of multi target-directed pharmacophores for neurodegenerative diseases.

I am a biochemist and pharmacologist with specific interest in discovering drugs’ molecular mechanisms of action. I express my passion for research by studding changes in signaling pathways elicited by novel drug candidates. I become specifically interested in G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and their ligands due to the mentorship of Dr. Irving W. Wainer (National Institute on Aging, NIA/NIH) and Dr. Krzysztof Jozwiak (Medical University of Lublin, Poland). Feel free to visit my blog (in Polish): zdrowiemolekularne.pl/ and follow me on facebook at fb.me/DrWnorowski.

I am a PhD student working at the Department of Biopharmacy (Medical University of Lublin). I started my lab work during my Pharmacy studies, when I was actively participating in animal research. Currently, I have the opportunity to participate in the research project entitled "Multiscale studies of β2-adrenergic receptor polymorphisms: from molecular processes to cardiovascular failure therapy". My research interests are focused on the mechanisms regulating the development and progression of heart failure in Danio rerio model. In my research, I focus mainly on the assessment of the cardiotoxic and cardioprotective properties of β-adrenergic receptor ligands.
